This just in: Guy Fieri is set to appear in Ferndale on April 5 during the town’s first annual “Guy Fieri Day,” when the self-proclaimed Mayor of Flavortown will be recognized as honorary mayor of the town where he grew up.
The celebrity chef will be recognized on Friday at 10:00am at Ferndale City Hall in an event that is open to the public.
The Ferndale City Council recently proclaimed that “Guy Fieri Day” will occur annually on April 5 and hailed Fieri’s philanthropic work feeding first responders and starting the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund for workers affected by the pandemic.
“Guy Fieri Day” will coincide with an appearance by the chef on the popular “Drew Barrymore Show.” Ferndale Mayor Randall Cady taped an announcement for the previously recorded episode.
Fieri said last week that he was completely surprised that he’s being honored with his own special day in Ferndale.
“What a great honor,” Fieri told the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce via telephone. “I was so surprised to be all the way in New York City and receive the news about Guy Fieri Day. I am proud and feel that Ferndale is with me everywhere I go.”
Will Fieri declare that Ferndale be renamed “Flavortown” for the day? Who knows. What we do know is that Fieri has done so much for Ferndale that he deserves a big thank you. Your Chamber of Commerce is hoping that residents pack Ferndale’s City Hall to join in celebrating Fieri on Friday, April 5 at 10:00am.
Congratulations, Guy!
