August in Ferndale offers a delightful mix of outdoor adventures and unique local experiences that highlight the charm of the Victorian Village. Here’s your guide to making the most of your August visit to Ferndale.

Stay in Ferndale and visit the redwoods. Ferndale is the perfect home base for exploring the majestic redwoods. Conveniently located between two iconic parks, you can experience the awe-inspiring Avenue of the Giants to the south and Redwood National and State Parks to the north. After a day among the giants, return to the comforts of our quaint town and relax in one of our cozy accommodations.

Beat the heat. August in Ferndale is refreshingly mild, with average high temperatures around 72°F. Our cool summer climate makes it ideal for exploring the town, enjoying outdoor activities, and attending events. Take advantage of the pleasant weather to discover all that Ferndale has to offer.

Enjoy an old-fashioned county fair. From August 21 to September 2, the Humboldt County Fair brings excitement and entertainment to Ferndale. This beloved annual event features carnival rides, horse racing, live music, delicious food, livestock and art exhibits and much more. Enjoy the festive atmosphere and create lasting memories with family and friends. (Please note the fair will be closed August 26-27. An additional weekend of horse racing is scheduled for Sept. 7-8.)

Get outside. August is a perfect time to enjoy Ferndale’s natural beauty. Hike through Russ Park’s Sitka spruce forest, explore Centerville Beach or relax in town at Firemen’s Park or the crowd-pleasing Hadley Gardens. We suggest you pack a picnic!

See a movie in our historic theatre. The Ferndale Repertory Theatre is hosting a delightful series of summer movies, perfect for a date night or an outing with the whole family. The lineup includes:

  • August 3: “Little Shop of Horrors”

  • August 11: “Muppet Treasure Island”

  • August 18: “Outbreak” (filmed in Ferndale!)

Make your own tote bag. On August 10, get creative at a quilted tote class hosted by Stitch. Stitch’s classes offers a great opportunity to learn new skills and create something beautiful. Make sure to sign up in advance to secure your spot!

Explore Main Street. Stroll down Ferndale’s historic Main Street to discover unique shops and delightful dining options. The Victorian architecture and small-town ambiance make for a memorable shopping and culinary experience. Check out our restaurant and shopping directories here.

Catch some live music. The Boardroom hosts a rotation of talented local musicians on Thursdays from 6-8pm while serving up charcuterie, beer/wine, and more. On the first Friday of every month, head to Tuyas Cantina from 6-8pm to enjoy live music by Flynn Martin. These venues provide a great way to experience local talent and unwind with good food and drinks. (For more live music throughout the year, keep an eye on The Old Steeple’s concert lineup too!)

Sample locally grown produce and dairy products. August is a great time to savor the flavors of Ferndale, a real working farm town. Visit our farmstands and Main Street shops to enjoy fresh, locally grown produce, along with cheese, milk and ice cream made by our very own cows!
