City of Ferndale

Ferndale, California might just be the perfect location: close to the redwoods and ocean, full of historic charm and friendly people, and a real working town with independent businesses and a strong sense of community.

The City of Ferndale is located in Humboldt County on California's Redwood Coast, five hours from the major cities of San Francisco and Sacramento and two hours south of the Oregon border. We have a population of 1481 people living within our one-square-mile city limits (via 2021 Census). Ferndale is situated in the Eel River Valley, a flat valley bordered by its namesake Eel River on the north, the ocean on the southwest and the mountains in the east.
